Pivot to entrepreneur — idea validation

The 5-step filter before you put money into your own thing.

What you need: The idea you're considering — one sentence on what it is and who it's for. Whatever you already know about (1) the specific PROBLEM you think you're solving and the named target customer who has it, (2) how those people solve it today (workaround, competitor, or nothing), (3) the rough market — how many people fit the target, what they currently spend on the problem, (4) the 2-3 closest competitors you can name and the gap you'd fill, (5) why YOU specifically — the lived experience, network, data, or distribution you have that other founders don't. If you don't know any of those, that's also useful — the prompt will tell you which gaps are load-bearing and which can wait. Bring honesty about whether you're trying to build a startup, a portfolio piece, a consultancy, or a hobby — the bar is radically different for each.

How to use: If you've built your business profile (see "Start here") and saved it as a Claude Project / Custom GPT / Gemini Gem, open that and paste this prompt inside — the AI will pull your background, network, and prior-decision context and skip questions it can answer. Otherwise paste into any fresh AI chat. The AI runs you through 7-8 questions about the idea (problem-fit, market sanity, competition, founder-fit, your honest motivation), then produces a structured pre-mortem with five named sub-segments to test first, three named competitors with the gap, a SPECIFIC 48-hour test you can run THIS WEEK to invalidate the idea (cost: usually $0-200), and ONE verdict — GO / VALIDATE FIRST / KILL — naming the single load-bearing reason. The deliverable is one page you can read in 90 seconds and forward to your CPA or your closest skeptic. Bias is calibrated against AI default cheerleading and against the founder's own confirmation bias: most ideas should fail validation; that's the point.
