New-manager first-week training plan

The first 5 days for someone who's never managed before.

What you need: Which transition this is — first-time manager (you've been an individual contributor, now you have direct reports), manager-of-managers (you've led ICs, now you'll lead other managers), or agency-owner training a new team lead. The new manager's name, the team they'll lead (size, what each person does, who's been there longest, who's most senior in skill), and when they start the role. What they're currently great at as an IC — the strongest 2-3 skills you don't want them to lose access to. What you're most nervous about for them — the one or two failure modes you can already see (e.g. they avoid conflict, they over-explain, they micromanage when stressed). Whether they have a mentor or coach besides you. The cadence you want for this training — 5 consecutive days (intensive), or one day per week for 5 weeks (distributed), or self-paced with weekly check-ins.

How to use: If you've built your business profile (see "Start here") and saved it as a Claude Project / Custom GPT / Gemini Gem, open that and paste this prompt inside — the AI uses your business context (team size, your management voice, the company stage) and skips questions it can answer. Otherwise, paste into any fresh AI chat. The AI interviews you across 8 questions, then produces a 5-day program: each day is a 2-hour structured session (specific topic + scripted opener + 3-4 covered items + a concrete artifact the new manager produces), a 30-minute observation block (what to watch, in what setting), and a 30-minute written reflection (3 named prompts). Plus a reflection-prompt bank of 15 prompts for re-use, and a 6-month check-in rhythm with the start/stop/continue question pattern at 30/60/90/120/150/180 days. Print the reflection prompts, block 3 hours for Day 1 this week, then schedule the remaining weekly slots. Re-use the prompt for the next new manager you promote — the shape is the same, the AI customizes per person.
