NIL deal evaluation checklist

What to check, what to push back on, what to walk from.

What you need: The deal offer in your hands — cash amount, product/comp value, what they want from you (posts, appearances, exclusivity), term length, and any clause language you can copy in. Your sport + position + division + class year + real social numbers (followers and engagement, not just follower count). Whether the brand is a true outside brand or your school's collective (the clearinghouse rules are different). Anything you already know about who's offering — local QSR, national apparel, regional dealer, crypto, sportsbook.

How to use: Paste this into a fresh AI chat. The AI runs you through 7 questions (or skips ones it can answer if you've built your business profile and saved it as a Claude Project / Custom GPT / Gemini Gem). Then it produces a 5-section evaluation memo: deal anatomy (every dollar, every obligation), red flags with risk scores, comparables in 2025-26 dollar bands for athletes at your level, paste-ready counter-ask language you can drop into a reply email, and walk-away conditions that mean don't-sign-without-a-lawyer. The memo ends naming exactly what to hand a lawyer if the deal is worth the $300/hr — so you only pay legal for the parts that matter.
